The research foundation is a volunteer run nonprofit entity dedicated to the research, education and production of scholarly work on the artist and mid-century to early 21st century art history. Edward Boccia was a teacher for 40 years and was committed to the fostering of creativity and artistic expression. This foundation is organized to continue this mission and outreach.
Special projects include publications, lectures, films, exhibitions and facilitating research among scholars of modern and contemporary art, diaspora and Italian American studies, internships, research apprenticeships, and educational outreach.
The foundation is committed to creating research and learning opportunities for women and minorities interested in the field of art history and ethnic studies in memory of Boccia’s dedication to his diverse body of students. This is all the more crucial in a time when arts funding is cut, the focus of study narrows, and professional development opportunities become few and far between. By including students in our projects, we hope to offer the guiding hand of the artist, in his memory and as an expression of our dedication to art and arts education.
Our Values: Arts and scholarship are an essential part of society. We support the study, teaching and exploration of the arts and honor diversity and support equity and inclusion in the field of art as way to advance creativity and showcase new voices. To realize this vision, we seek to create new learning opportunities through our program of research and special projects, and through offering specialized training opportunities in cooperation with universities such as Molloy University, Washington University of St. Louis, Bowdoin College, Queens College, CUNY and Montclair University.
